Extract from the HABITAT bw international programme

The HABITAT project addresses the global challenge of the climate crisis in the context of culture and architecture. As the climate crisis knows no national borders, new ways of building and climate-friendly architecture can only be developed in close cooperation across cultural boundaries – always with the overarching goal of simultaneously designing high-quality living spaces. Sustainable and climate-friendly architecture is therefore not just the choice of building materials whose efficiency can be measured in data or the unreflected compliance with standards and regulations, but it means adapting the construction, design and shape of buildings to the structural specifications and characteristics of a location and understanding these in their cultural, historical and social context: The atmosphere of a place, its authenticity: the genius loci.
